Yes, you need emergency first aid and CPR as part of the 40-hour training. It's included in our Exam Ready and Guaranteed Job packages, and you book your class right in the student portal.
Only need first aid? Book with our partner, Ontario CPR Society.
What does the licence require?
Yes. Ontario's basic security guard training is at least 40 hours and includes emergency first aid and CPR certification, so you need it to finish your training and get your licence.
With us, you take the guard training online and the first aid and CPR class in person, in one day. You must finish first aid and CPR before you can get your Training Completion Number (TCN). Without a valid first aid and CPR certificate, your training provider can’t issue your TCN.

When does my first aid certificate expire?
Your certificate is valid for 3 years. Renewing your security guard licence doesn't require you to retake training, but many employers want a current first aid certificate, so renew it before it expires.

First aid and CPR FAQ
Is first aid included in my course?
Yes, if you have Exam Ready or Guaranteed Job: both include Basic First Aid & CPR/AED Level C. Basic Training does not include it, but Basic students can upload a certificate they already have or book and pay for a class in the student portal.
How do I book my CPR class?
Log in to the student portal after you buy Exam Ready or Guaranteed Job and book your class there. There is no separate payment.
Is online-only first aid accepted?
No. A fully online first aid course is not accepted. Your first aid and CPR training must include an in-person part and must be delivered by a WSIB-approved first aid provider. Our class is in person, through Ontario CPR Society with Archer First Aid, a WSIB-approved provider.
What level of CPR do I need?
CPR/AED Level C, taken as part of Basic First Aid (WSIB's new name for Emergency First Aid). Our Basic First Aid & CPR/AED Level C class meets the first aid requirement for the security guard licence.
How long is the first aid certificate valid?
3 years from the day you pass.
Can I use a first aid certificate I already have?
Yes, if it's valid. The Ministry's training syllabus says: "If you already have a valid emergency first aid and CPR certificate from a St. John Ambulance or WSIB-certified instructor, you can give it to your training provider instead of retaking it." Upload your certificate in the student portal.
Do you offer weekend classes?
Yes. Classes run 7 days a week, including evenings.
When do I need to finish first aid?
You must finish first aid and CPR before you can get your Training Completion Number (TCN). Without a valid first aid and CPR certificate, your training provider can’t issue your TCN.
